DVD and Blu-ray authoring is different from copying an MP4 to a disc. A playable video disc needs a strict folder structure, compliant streams, navigation metadata and the correct filesystem. It also needs realistic expectations: modern televisions may prefer USB files, while a standalone player expects DVD-Video or Blu-ray structure.
DVD-Video basics
DVD-Video uses VIDEO_TS with MPEG-2 video and constrained audio, frame sizes and frame rates. PAL and NTSC families differ. Authoring creates IFO/BUP/VOB files and, when requested, an ISO suitable for burning. A random MP4 renamed to VOB is not a valid DVD.
Blu-ray basics
Blu-ray uses BDMV and CERTIFICATE structures, playlists and transport streams. Authoring can create a folder or UDF 2.50 image. Output resolution, frame rate and codec must be compatible with the intended player. Long Windows paths can also break third-party authoring tools, so the application uses bounded, owned staging paths for its tested workflow.
A safe authoring workflow
- Start with verified, locally stored video and enough free disk space for intermediate files plus the final image.
- Choose DVD or Blu-ray based on the physical player—not simply the source resolution.
- Select titles, order and chapter strategy. Preview language and subtitle decisions.
- Author to a folder or image in a new output location.
- Probe the encoded streams and decode them completely.
- Mount or test the image in a compatible player before burning.
- Use low-speed, verified burning for important discs and retain the source.
Importing VIDEO_TS or BDMV
Disc folders may contain several titles, menus, angles and short navigation clips. Import the title you intend rather than concatenating every file by directory order. The application probes titles and exposes usable media; protected commercial discs remain outside the supported workflow.
